MARUMIYA Chuka-soba Main store
I went to “Motoshako-mae Marumiya Chuka Soba Main Branch” in Kemi (Kimiidera), Wakayama City. This is probably my third visit. Mr. Marumiya was founded in 1949, and the current owner is the third generation. This shop was started by the first owner, who opened a stall in front of a streetcar depot.
Mr. Marumiya’s location in front of the former garage is along National Route 42, the main road in Wakayama Prefecture, near Kimiidera Baseball Stadium.
The inside of the store had been renovated and was clean compared to the last time I visited. A little off topic, but I’m really glad that the law was revised to ban smoking inside stores from April 2020. Thanks to this, I can eat delicious food and my children can come to the restaurant with peace of mind. Many ramen restaurants allow smoking, so I think the number of families coming to the restaurants will increase.
There are about 10 counter seats facing the national highway. With this many seats, even one person can feel comfortable going here.
MENU
Marumiya’s lunch menu. Honestly, I think most of you order this set, so much so that you have no choice but to order it. It’s also nice that they have “kaedama”, which is rare at Wakayama ramen shops. The portions of Chinese noodles served at ramen restaurants in Wakayama are often a bit small.
- Chuka-soba 650 yen
- Charshu men 850 yen
- Spare balls 100 yen
- Grilled rice 600 yen (half 300 yen)
- Gyoza 300 yen
- service lunch
(Chuka soba + mini fried rice) 900 yen
I ordered gyoza (300 yen) from the side menu. Many Wakayama ramen restaurants do not have standard side menus such as gyoza, but Marumiya-san also has side menus such as gyoza, fried chicken, and sweet and sour pork. There is no early sushi, which can be said to be a standard at Wakayama ramen shops.
Hearty mini fried rice
“Mini fried rice with plenty of volume” An expression that I don’t quite understand… Anyway, the amount is so large that you can’t believe it’s a mini. Of course I want to eat ramen, but I’m also looking for this fried rice. The ingredients are simple, and the pinkish one is probably ham.
Marumiya Chuka-soba
This is the most popular Chinese soba. A soy sauce-based pork bone soup. Wakayama ramen is often divided into two types: Karomae-style and Ide-style, but this one is relatively light and easy to eat. I don’t like strong flavors, so I prefer lighter flavors based on soy sauce. I think this ramen is especially delicious in Wakayama city.
Three pieces of chashu. The flavor of the meat was strong and it was delicious.
It seems that since the third generation, the noodles have changed to homemade noodles. Unique blend based on domestic wheat. We are particular about the chewy elasticity that is pleasing to women.
There was no problem with the delivery time. The store is clean and the staff are friendly. This restaurant is recommended for families and couples.
Parking
Please note that you can only enter the parking lot facing south from Route 42. Turn left and enter. There was space to park 11 cars.
